Abstract

Global problems in the fields of energy and the environment are increasingly raise the question of the scientific, economic, and even political circles, will in the future mankind be able to meet its needs at a level that is possible today. In this regard, the issue of sustainable development has become the subject of numerous analyzes, and great attention is paid to the sustainable development in the energy and environment, as well as areas that fateful determine the survival and development of mankind. There are several theories related to what are the major elements of energy-environmental sustainability. In this paper as the basis for theoretical and practical analysis were used the principles of sustainable development by Herman E. Daly. For purposes of analysis, I created a new indicator that takes into account these principles of sustainable development and is called Energy-Environmental Sustainability Index. In this paper I analyze the energy and environmental sustainability in the 130 countries of the world, which covers more than 90% of the world's population and gross domestic product (GDP). Through the ranking of countries and cluster analysis I seek to find common characteristics of a group of countries and identify factors that contribute to the state of energy and environmental sustainability in the countries analyzed.
