The pneumatic waste collection system (PWCS) represents a safe, efficient, hygienic, and environmentally sustainable method for municipal solid waste (MSW) management. In alignment with national policies advocating for the four-category waste classification system, this study addresses the integration of pneumatic conveying technology with source-separated waste collection. Based on the operational principles and equipment configuration of PWCS, and considering the current waste generation patterns and composition at railway stations, two distinct centralized collection schemes for classified waste were formulated. These schemes incorporate both non-storage and storage-enabled waste inlet ports, which share a unified conveying pipeline, thereby enhancing system flexibility and efficiency. At the terminal end of the pneumatic system, three distinct sets of gas-solid separation units, compaction devices, and collection containers are designed to achieve the integrated four-category classification functions of sorted input, segregated collection, categorized compaction, and classified transportation. This work provides a technical and design foundation for the implementation of a new model of waste classification and transportation, and offers valuable insights into the infrastructure requirements for efficient waste recycling in large-scale residential and transport hubs.
